The cost is higher: clay tiles run 60 to 100% more per m² than concrete interlocking, and the installation is slower due to the smaller tile size and double-lap laying pattern.

For properties outside conservation areas where the original roof was clay, the choice between clay and concrete is genuinely open. Clay gives a longer lifespan and better period character; concrete is cheaper and faster to install.
